Downtown Portland is the only part of the city that feels truly urban. I like that about Portland, because it means I get all the benefits of living in a big city, but I don’t feel like I live in one, except when I’m downtown. And really, as far as downtowns go, Portland is pretty laid back. I think a lot of it has to do with all the dedicated open and green spaces we have, the newest of which is Director Park.
Situated, appropriately, on SW Park Avenue, Director Park opened in October 2009. The park has a beautiful light granite fountain where you’ll see children playing on any given sunny afternoon, along with many outdoor tables and chairs and a food cart called Violetta Cafe. It’s a great place to sit back, take a few deep breaths and people watch in the heart of downtown’s hustle and bustle.
