I love a good Irish pub. I love it even more during happy hour. So I got a dose of double happiness this evening when I met a couple of good friends at Paddy’s Bar & Grill downtown for a pint and a plate of deep-fried happy hour goodness (aka chicken strips – not very Irish, I know).
This was my first visit to Paddy’s, and let me just say, it’s really cool. Ok, so the waitresses wear plaid skirts and the happy hour menu isn’t all that Irish, but it’s a bastion of local charm nonetheless. Paddy’s is one of Portland’s oldest Irish pubs, situated in a building that’s even older. Built in 1877, to be exact, which is old in this town. The most striking feature is a gorgeous antique bar, which boasts over 500 spirits and a decent array of beers on tap, including, of course, Guinness.
If you happen to find yourself near SW 1st and Yamhill downtown, it’s well worth a stop inside.
